In my first job as a regeneration consultant, I became fascinated by the way Sport, Art, and Open Space Provision could add value to development, promote social inclusion and attract talent to the Local Economy.
While working on Sport and Play Strategies I learned how developer contributions and innovative funding mechanisms such as land-based development trusts could be used to secure investment in community infrastructure
At Culture South East I initiated a series of projects to develop an understanding of the ways Developer Contributions, Section 106 Agreements, and Community Infrastructure Levy could fund Cultural Infrastructure and Public Art.
I was also able to establish with support from Arts Council England, Sport England, Historic England, Tourism South East, and Screen South a series of pioneering projects which ensured Culture Creative Industries and Sport were included in the planning of the Ashford, Thames Gateway North Kent and Milton Keynes and South Midlands Sustainable Communities Growth Areas. I later worked directly on the place-shaping agenda for the Partnership for South Hampshire which at that time had growth point status.
